This is a good, positive outcome for you...Hi Kate~

This is a good, positive outcome for you. It sounds like you would enjoy leading a group, and I am sure you would do well at it. Where I live we used to have the NAMI meetings at a community mental health center, but for the past few years they've been held at the local Hostice organizaion's meeting rooms. It's a nice building; I am not sure that there are large hospice organizations everywhere, but it's just another idea. I have also been to mental health support groups at hospitals: at a psych hospital and also at a regular hospital. Hospitals are often open to people holding support groups. With being part of NAMI, you will be under the umbrella of a national non-profit organization that has a well-known reputation, so I bet you will be able to find a meeting place! Libraries are good too.

Where I live the NAMI consumer support group's leaders had to get some minimal training before they started being group leaders, but I don't know that it is like that everywhere, and if anything, I'm sure you could learn the ropes from that woman in the nearby town who has reached out to you. That was a good find!

Good luck with this and keep in touch!

Take care,

JenFeminist Voice with Disabilitieshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04971702402040080054noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7239140084937897595.post-52259928743290793412009-07-12T03:54:33.404-04:002009-07-12T03:54:33.404-04:00I hope that you manage to find a venue. That way people can get to know eachother sort of and then start going to groups to meet eachother. I am going to talk to my nurse and see what she thinks. It also will be a means of communication with out having to hand out your phone number. I hate talking to people on the phone other that catching up with family. It's also free which helps when people like us can't afford to splash out on phone calls. I think it will also be easy to run.

J<3PAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7239140084937897595.post-25818627019070636292009-07-10T17:47:33.705-04:002009-07-10T17:47:33.705-04:00Kate -

It is definitely in my humble opinion a growth on your part to take on this responsibility. I am sure many will appreciate all the work you do to get it started.
